SIEMENS SENSATION-EMOTION 16-64 CT SCANNER-MRI ADVANTO

Article:

MRI produces high-quality images of anatomical structures in any part of the body in any plane. The scanner uses a powerful magnet, radio waves and computers to create images. MRI is a non invasive procedure and does not use X-rays during the scan, which means that it can be used multiple times.
MRI is an imaging technique considered very safe.
About the Scanner
The state of the art Weston Siemens Avanto 1.5 T MRI scanner was commissioned in 2010, is housed in a green building, with cedar clad walls and a "living" sedum roof.
The scanner is operated by MRI Radiographers trained to make sure you get the best imaging possible for you.
The scan will be reported by a consultant radiologist, a doctor who specializes in interpreting x-rays and scanned images, and will be carried out under their direction scanning.

The scanner has a low position-to-the-floor table of only 47 cm (18 "), which makes it accessible to all.
For claustrophobic patients, excluding the head and neck exam, the scanner allows you to place your feet first for nearly all MR procedures.
The scanner supports up to 250 kg (550 lbs), without restriction of movement table.
If you need a body scan will be more comfortable with an array body coil weighing less than most other scanners just £ 2
(950 grams). Significantly more convenient, especially for patients who are in pain or discomfort. And with coverage of the whole body, without repositioning is necessary so that your time in the scanner is reduced.
What should I expect?
The Radiographer will have a chat with you, before scanning to explain the procedure and check your security questionnaire. If you have questions or doubts, the Radiographer should be able to answer and put you at ease.
What does the scan involve?
Most of the tests are carried out feet first and the Radiographer will position itself on a comfortable sofa, which flows into the scanner. Positioning aids may be used to make you comfortable and help to keep still for the duration of the scan.
The Avanto scanner, although quieter than most, still produces loud hum and crackling sounds during the scan, so ear protection will be provided for you. To enhance your experience we are able to play music during the scan so you might want to bring a CD or MP3 player with a standard headphone jack.
How long will it take?
This depends on the area to be scanned. However most of the scans were completed in 20 - 30 mins. Even if we try to maintain at the time of appointment, requests for emergency imaging and can cause extra delays.
It 'sure?
There is potentially harmful radiation used for magnetic resonance imaging, it is considered an imaging technique very safe. However, because the scanner uses a powerful magnet it is important we are aware of some surgical procedures.
If you have a pacemaker, clip arteries of the head, cochlear implants or metal fragments in your eyes you can not be scanned.
Joint replacements, dental implants and rings of gold or silver are perfectly safe.
IMPORTANT!
Because of the strong magnetic field, some people may not be suitable for the MRI scan.
If you have any of the following, or if you have any doubts about your suitability for magnetic resonance imaging, please talk with a staff member prior to scanning.
cardiac pacemaker
cardiac defibrillator
ARTIFICIAL HEART VALVE
Aneurysm clips *
METAL FRAGMENTS IN: ** EYES, HEAD, BODY
Any surgery within six weeks of his appointment
PLANTS IN ANY surgery that involves head or body
Any concerns about claustrophobia
* These are the metal clips inserted during some operations, in particular the blood vessels of the brain.
** If you suspect that a piece of metal may have penetrated the eye, especially if you have never worked with drills, lathes or grinders, please contact the department for advice immediately.
